A roof is not shingles. It’s every layer underneath.
Shingles are the part you can see. What keeps water out of your house is the whole system working together, including the deck, the leak barrier, the underlayment, the starter strip, the drip edge, the flashing, the ridge cap, and the ventilation. Get one of those wrong and the shingles can’t save you.

Why the layers matter, and when to ask about them.

Two bids, very different prices
When one quote is thousands less than another, something got left out. Ask for both quotes line by line, and it usually shows up fast.

A newer roof that already leaks
A leak on a roof that’s only a few years old is usually an installation problem at the flashing, an edge, or a valley, not a bad shingle.

Shingles that lift in the wind
Shingles that lift or blow off early are often short on nails or missing a starter strip at the edge. Both are part of our installation standard.

The system
The Right and Precise Roofing System, in the order we install it.
Removing the old roof and inspecting the deck
The old roof comes off to the bare deck, every time, up to two layers of old shingles.
Read moreShow less about removing the old roof
You can’t check the deck for rot if you never see it. Up to 96 square feet of damaged decking (three full sheets) is replaced at no extra cost.
Leak barrier
GAF WeatherWatch® ice and water shield goes where water actually gets in. That means along the eaves, in every valley, along the ridge, and around every chimney, skylight, and pipe.
Read moreShow less about the leak barrier
It seals around the nails driven through it. Around here it isn’t optional, because winters that freeze and thaw are exactly what cause ice dams.
Roof deck protection
GAF Deck-Armor™ synthetic covers the rest of the deck, each course overlapping the last by six inches.
Read moreShow less about roof deck protection
Old 15 pound felt soaks up water, wrinkles, and tears in the wind. If a competitor’s quote is meaningfully cheaper, check whether this is where the money went.
Drip edge and starter strip
New 3.5-inch F-style drip edge along the edges, then GAF Pro-Start® starter strip at the eaves and rakes.
Read moreShow less about the drip edge and starter strip
WeatherBlocker™ starter goes with Designer shingles. Either way, the first row holds down in the wind.
Shingles
Straight rows, six nails per shingle, for GAF wind coverage up to 130 mph.

Crooked rows and raised nails don’t pass our final check.
Flashing, all of it
New step, counter, chimney, and sidewall flashing. Every pipe gets a pipe boot with a lifetime warranty, not the standard rubber that cracks years before the shingles wear out.
Read moreShow less about flashing
Reusing old flashing is one of the most common shortcuts in roofing, because it’s buried and no homeowner ever sees it. Failed flashing is also the number one source of leaks. Those two facts aren’t a coincidence.
Ridge cap and ventilation
A Snow Country ridge vent runs the length of the peak, finished with GAF Seal-A-Ridge® or TimberTex® ridge cap.

The intake at the soffits is checked too, because exhaust without intake does almost nothing. On hipped roofs, Cobra® hip vents add exhaust along the hips.
Why it matters for your warranty
Why the parts have to be GAF.
GAF’s enhanced warranties require a minimum number of qualifying GAF accessories. A roof built from mixed, leftover parts doesn’t qualify, no matter whose shingles are on top.
The leak barrier, deck protection, starter strip, shingles, ridge cap, and ridge vent are all GAF products, which is how your roof qualifies for the Silver Pledge™.
Options
Three shingle lines. One system underneath.
Think of it as good, better, best, but all three are genuinely good, and all three go on the same complete system underneath. Your consultant brings samples and shows you all three on your actual home. As a GAF Certified Plus™ contractor, we register the GAF Silver Pledge™ Limited Warranty on every roof, with 50 years non-prorated on materials and 10 years on installation.

Every Layer, in Writing
Free inspection. Every material on your exact written price. No pressure.

How it works
How a job runs. No surprises, start to finish.
Five steps, each one in writing, so you always know what happens next and what you’ll have in hand.
The process From the first visit to the warranty papers
01
We inspect and measure.
On a roof we check the shingles, the flashing, the gutters and trim, and the layers at an edge, and we go into the attic every time. On siding we check the substrate, the grade clearance, and the windows.
02
You get an exact price, in writing.
Before we leave, itemized line by line. Hand it to another contractor. If they can’t match the lines, the totals aren’t the same job.
03
We protect the property first.
Plants, drives, and beds are covered before the first bundle comes off the truck.
04
We remove the old roof and dry in on the same day.
You see photos of the deck. Soft plywood is priced before we cover it. An open deck overnight is how a replacement becomes an interior claim.
05
We walk the job and register your warranty.
You get the photos and the paperwork, and on a roof we register your GAF warranty for you. Not a verbal promise from the driveway.

New roof on a stone-front ranch in Honey Brook
Architectural shingles · Gray · October 2026

Wayne, PA · Roof replacement
Roof replacement with a cedar-shake dormer in Wayne
Architectural shingles · Slate gray · September 2026
A steep roof with a cedar-shake dormer, replaced from the deck up. The dormer’s sidewalls were flashed and sealed so the shingles and the shake meet cleanly.

Reviews
What homeowners say, in their own words.
Cost & financing
What a roof costs, and how to pay for it.
A national average isn’t your house. Your price depends on the size and pitch of the roof, its valleys, dormers, chimneys, and skylights, how many layers come off, the decking underneath, and the shingle you choose. That’s why you get an exact number in writing before we leave, with every line on the page.
Roof cost range finder
What should a new roof cost around here?
This is not a quote. It is a planning range from typical installed prices for a simple roof in Southeastern PA and northern Delaware. Valleys, dormers, chimneys, soft decking, and extra layers move the number, so we still come out and measure.
Planning range
Includes removing one layer of old shingles and hauling it away. Does not include deck replacement we can only see once the old roof is off.

Financing
The applicable lender determines the terms associated with any financing offer available through the Finturf platform. Right & Precise provides access to the financing platform, but we don’t set lender rates, repayment terms, or approval decisions. Reviewing the lender’s information will help you understand the details connected with an available financing option.
Warranty
Covered three ways, all in writing.
GAF Silver Pledge™ is backed by GAF.
The materials are covered for 50 years non-prorated, including labor, removal of the old roof, and disposal. GAF also covers installation errors for 10 years, and backs the repair if a contractor can’t make it.
Our workmanship guarantee goes on top of GAF’s.
Lasts 20 years, on top of GAF’s coverage. If something we did isn’t right, we come back and fix it, with no argument about whether it’s technically a covered defect.
Our satisfaction guarantee covers how we treat your home.
Materials and labor are only part of the job. How we treat your home, your yard, your neighbors, and your time is the rest of it, and we guarantee that too.

What is a roofing system, and why does it matter?
A roof isn’t just shingles, which are maybe 60% of what keeps water out. A system is every part working together, from the deck to the ridge vent. It also decides your warranty, because GAF’s best coverage requires a minimum number of qualifying GAF accessories.
Does it matter whether you use synthetic underlayment or felt paper?
It matters. Felt absorbs water, wrinkles, tears in wind, and breaks down. Synthetic is far stronger, lies flat, sheds water, and holds up if the roof is open to weather in the middle of a job. We use it on every roof.
Do you replace all the flashing?
Yes, all of it, with new step flashing, counter flashing, and valleys, plus a pipe boot with a lifetime warranty on every pipe. Every time.
Can you install new shingles over my old ones?
No. We don’t do layovers. Ever. It hides rot, traps heat and moisture, keeps the old flashing, and voids the enhanced warranty.
How are the shingles nailed?
Six nails per shingle, with GAF starter strip at the eaves and rakes. Installed that way, GAF covers Timberline HDZ® shingles against wind up to 130 mph.
Why does attic ventilation matter for the roof?
A hot, damp attic cooks the shingles from underneath and rots the deck. It’s also one of the most common reasons a manufacturer denies a warranty claim. That’s why we design the intake and exhaust on every roof.
