Step by step
From the first call to the warranty papers, step by step.
01
Inspection
We listen first, then inspect the roof, gutters, trim, and attic, take measurements, and photograph what we find. If more than one person makes the decision, it helps to have everyone there.
02
Your exact price
Before we leave, you get an exact, itemized price in writing. No waiting days for a number from the office. Then you choose your shingle and color from samples at full size.
03
Scheduling, permits, and materials
Most projects are scheduled within about a week of signing, weather permitting, and active leaks move to the front of the line. We pull the permits, which are included in your price, and materials arrive shortly before install day, staged to protect your driveway and lawn.
04
Install day
We protect your landscaping, walkways, siding, windows, and AC unit first, tear off to the deck, and check it. If we find damaged decking, we call you before we fix it. We never take off more than we can cover that day.
05
Cleanup and walkthrough
We clean as we go and sweep the lawn, beds, walkways, and driveway with magnets. Then we walk the job with you. If you find a nail later, call us and we’ll come back and sweep again.
06
Warranty and aftercare
We register your GAF warranty and GAF sends you the documents. Then we check in after the job, and we answer the phone after that.
Install day
Install day, step by step.
Most roofs are done in a single day. Here’s how the Right and Precise Roofing System goes on.
- Arrival and setup. The crew arrives, introduces themselves, and goes over the plan with you.
- Property protection. Tarps and plywood over landscaping, shrubs, and walkways. Covers on the AC unit, the siding, and the windows. The dump trailer is placed so your driveway isn’t damaged.
- Old roof off. The old roof comes off to the bare deck, up to two layers, one section at a time.
- Deck inspection. We check the exposed deck, photograph any rot, and get your OK before replacing anything.
- Dried in. GAF WeatherWatch® leak barrier at the eaves, valleys, ridge, and openings, GAF Deck-Armor™ synthetic underlayment across the rest, overlapped six inches, and F-style drip edge on.
- Shingles. Starter strip first, then shingles fastened with six nails apiece.
- Flashing and details. All new step, wall, chimney, and pipe flashing, and the valleys finished.
- Ventilation and ridge. The ridge vent is cut in, Cobra® hip vents go on hipped roofs, and the ridge cap goes on.
- Cleanup. Every scrap hauled away, and magnetic sweeps of the lawn, beds, and driveway at least three times a day.
- Final walkthrough. We walk the property with you before we leave, not after.

FAQ
Questions about the process.

Still have a question?
Ask the people who’d do the work. Call 610.347.3000 in Pennsylvania or 302.302.2400 in Delaware.
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Do I need to stay home during my roof replacement?
No, many customers go to work or make other plans during installation. We ask that you stay reachable by phone in case a decision is needed, particularly if we uncover damaged decking, and being there for the final walkthrough helps when possible.
What should I do to prepare for install day?
Move vehicles away from the driveway and the areas right beside the house. Inside, take fragile decorations off walls on upper floors and cover anything stored in the attic, because tearing off the old roof creates vibration, dust, and debris.
Do you take care of the permits?
Yes. We arrange the required permits with your municipality, and permitting is included in the project price, so there’s no township paperwork for you.
What happens if it rains?
We watch the forecast and never take off more roofing than we can protect that day. If unsafe or unsuitable weather is expected, we move the date rather than start under conditions that put your house or the installation at risk.
What if something gets damaged?
We tell you before you find it, and we fix it. If we damaged it, it’s ours to make right, and we’re fully insured.
